W59 Workshop for Supervisors and Inspectors

Course Overview

This course is intended for Welding Supervisors and Inspectors who want to increase their knowledge of the requirements of CSA Standard W59. It is also of interest to engineers, shop foremen, quality assurance personnel or others who want to gain a knowledge of CSA Standard W59, Welded steel construction (Metal arc welding).  

The Welding supervisor course – Steel course provides instructional material presented by our knowledgeable CWB Education instructors that covers the following topics:

  • Scope, definitions and reference publications
  • Qualification requirements, base metals, terms and symbols
  • Drawings, design of joints, minimum dimensions of welds
  • Workmanship requirements, electrodes, material preparation and assembly, welding procedures, distortion, preheat and weld profiles and corrections
  • Duties and qualification of the welding supervisor
  • Welding inspection, welding inspectors and examination methods
  • Prequalified joints and essential variables
  • Welding procedure specifications and the qualification of welding procedure data sheets
  • Requirements for statically and cyclically loaded structures
  • Workshops on welded connections

Pre-requisites

  • There are no prerequisites for this course.
  • Please note: latest version of CSA Standards W59 is required during the course
