Magnetic Particle Level 2

Course Overview

This course will provide the knowledge and background for successful participants to challenge the Level 2 CGSB Magnetic Particle examinations. This comprehensive course includes both the theory and practical applications of the Magnetic Particle method, reviews and application of test equipment along with the use of standards, specifications and procedures. The CWB Education NDE advantage is: Very strong theory coupled with extensive practical training by seasoned industry professionals. The theoretical subject matter, supplemented by evening assignments, quizzes, and practical hands-on instruction will allow both the participant and instructor to monitor progress and help the students to prepare for the closed book examination held on the final afternoon of the course.

As part of the practical classroom training, students will evaluate representative test samples of actual products, demonstrate familiarity in the operation of testing equipment, understand the calibration requirements and recognize specific process controls. Students will also be guided in the interpretation of test results and their evaluation to standard specifications. CWB Education NDE training courses meet the requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006, IAEA Techdoc 628, SNT-TC-1A & NRCan NDT Certifying Agency Curricula

Student Prerequisites & Requirements:

  • The required class material will be taught by seasoned Industry professionals with extensive hands-on experience in the global fabrication world, in the primary metals producing industries and with proven academic capabilities.
  • Upon successful completion of the course the participant will receive a Certificate and an Examination Transcript (a minimum passing grade of 70% for each of the examination parts, general & specific, along with full attendance is required).
  • Successful completion of the course meets the training requirements for certification by NRCan*.
  • A detailed workbook will be provided to each participant.
  • Current QCC members receive a 10% discount on course fees.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Ontario based courses only)
  • Attendee must pass (with a grade greater than 70%) a materials and processes (M&P) exam prior to attending the course. The M&P exam must be proctored in person (i.e. cannot be provided remotely without physical invigilation). Proof of the grade obtained on the materials and processes exam must be provided to the CWB via email at or brought in person to the first day of class.

*Qualification for certification to CAN/CGSB-48.9712 requires a minimum of 4 months related on –the-job industrial experience.

**For certification, applicants must also provide Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the certifying agency, with evidence of successful completion a recognized (40) forty hour Materials and Processes training course, OR successful completion of an examination (a one-time exam with a passing grade requirement of 70%). Note that both the course and exam are offered by the CWB Education. Current candidates with two (2) or more CGSB certifications are exempt from this requirement.

Students must have the following for the first day of class

  • A current copy of the CWB Education NDE Foundation Documents
  • Safety footwear (all other personal protective equipment is provided by CWBi)
