Materials and Processes

This training course will provide NDT technicians and Quality Control personnel with a thorough understanding of the production, structure, properties and forming of engineering materials.

The knowledge gained during this course will prepare personnel not only for industry needs, but also for the examinations required for the NDE disciplines requiring a knowledge of materials and processes, in accordance with the requirements of CAN/CGSB 48.9712-2014.

Course Details

The course is presented by a world-class teaching staff, who are recognized for their academic capabilities and extensive industrial experience.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Production, structure and properties of steel
  • Properties and uses of the major non-ferrous metals
  • Mechanical properties of materials
  • Casting, metal forming, welding and other secondary processes
  • Discontinuities and defects and the methods used for their detection

The training course and the supplementary CWB Education NDE foundation documents provide the required knowledge base. This will allow the participant to monitor progress. Upon successful completion of the course the participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

CWB Education NDE training courses meet the requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2014, IAEA Techdoc 628, & NRCan NDT Certifying Agency curricula.

The classroom course contains 40 hours of training over 5 days or 48 hours over 6 days (see the course dates for classes below).

The learning material in the online version of this course represents approximately 40 hours of in class training.


Participants are required to have the latest versions of the CWBi NDE foundation documents.
