Saskatoon

Chapter Contact

The Saskatoon chapter is a relatively new chapter, but has been growing steadily since we began. Our Chapter, along with the Regina chapter represent Saskatchewan in the CWB Association. Our executive is a small group of volunteers from all aspects of the welding industry. We work hard to bring presentations that are of interest to our local welding industry and strive to keep our events relaxing, enjoyable, and informative. We are also working to enhance the local industry by involving students and educators, both at the high school and post-secondary levels.

Presently, our Chapter is planning dinner meetings for the fall and winter, which will be posted as they become available. Typically, CWB Association members can enjoy these dinner meetings for only $20 and students receive a discount (the amount for students this year is TBD). Our meetings take place at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Ontario Avenue location (formerly SIAST). We typically aim to have 4 – 6 meetings or events (shop tours, or social nights such as a steak night) per year.

Please feel free to contact myself or any one of the executive if you have any meeting ideas, comments, questions, or concerns.

So you want to be an independent contractor?

Date and Time: Thursday, October 27th, 7:00pm - 10:00pm CST
Location: Online event

Mike Janzen, Co-Founder & CEO of ClearSource

Dan Hunt, Co-Founder & CMO of ClearSource

Many of us get our designation, or ticket, and then are told that our best path forward is to go into business for ourselves. “You can set your own hours!” or “You can charge whatever you want!” are the messages we hear. Or sometimes, we get offered a position on an exciting project, but we’re told we MUST be a contractor and bill the GC accordingly. Beyond what we’re told or what’s expected of us, what is involved in setting up a contracting business? Mike Janzen & Dan Hunt, Co-Founders of ClearSource, will discuss the process, the pitfalls, and the platforms that can help you ensure success. Mike has been a contractor, worked as a field rep for a power tool company, and held executive roles with multi-national distributors like Fastenal & Red-D-Arc. Dan spent 18 months in a tool crib in a place called Firebag and has spent the last seven years of his career advising small businesses on how best to navigate digitalization. With the launch of ClearSource, they are trying to help the contractor community be better prepared for the challenges of running a small business and introduce innovation to help make them more efficient.
