Achieving Toughness in Weldments for Arctic Service

Presented At:
CWA Conference 2014

Achieving toughness in weldments for arctic service presents many challenges. Weld metal alloy, base metal heat-affected zone and welding technique all influence toughness at low temperatures. Alloy composition or using special formulations is a favorite means for dealing with low temperatures, but ignoring welding technique can result in degradation of the heat affected zones as well. Options and technical approaches will be presented and illustrated using practical examples.
