Regina

Chapter Contact

The Regina Chapter of CWB Association has, for the past three years, been holding their monthly dinner meetings from October to May at Saskatchewan Polytechnic- Regina Campus. Aramark, the cafeteria manager, has catered the always excellent meals. Speakers have presented on a wide range of topics from metallurgy and cast iron welding, radiography and inspection, virtual welding to grinder development and safety. The student lounge area can accommodate up to 60 people for PowerPoint presentations with sound, projector, and screen. Our normal turnout varies from a low of 25 to a high of 55 with the average being about 35 attendees. Any presentations which require a demonstration involving hot work simply move down to the welding shop. We have had demonstrations of plasma equipment by Hypertherm, robotic welding by Lincoln, cold metal transfer and welding aluminum to steel by Fronius, high frequency induction heating by Red-D-Arc Limited as well as a demonstration of a very unique product called Multiplaz which uses plasma created from water and alcohol to cut anything, electrically conductive or not.

We have various events such as a bowling night, an indoor golf night and a fundraising steak night held in between the dinner meetings throughout the year. The fundraiser is for the Harold Mollekan Scholarship Fund for any student interested in taking post-secondary training in welding. Harold was one of the original members of the Regina Chapter who was active in every capacity within the chapter up to his passing in 2010. We have had tours of various manufacturing facilities over the years such as of Dutch Industries, Brandt Industries (Agriculture Div. and Engineered Products Div.), and of Degelman Industries of Regina and of Hitachi and Flexicoil (CNH) in Saskatoon. We would get a turnout of about 60 people for the tours with the hosting local companies supplying food and refreshments. In addition to the regular dates with invited speakers and other events, we have the annual windup CWB Association June golf tournament which is always well attended with barbecue and prizes afterward.

Date and Time: Thursday, October 27th, 7:00pm - 10:00pm CST
Location: Online event

Mike Janzen, Co-Founder & CEO of ClearSource

Dan Hunt, Co-Founder & CMO of ClearSource

Many of us get our designation, or ticket, and then are told that our best path forward is to go into business for ourselves. “You can set your own hours!” or “You can charge whatever you want!” are the messages we hear. Or sometimes, we get offered a position on an exciting project, but we’re told we MUST be a contractor and bill the GC accordingly. Beyond what we’re told or what’s expected of us, what is involved in setting up a contracting business? Mike Janzen & Dan Hunt, Co-Founders of ClearSource, will discuss the process, the pitfalls, and the platforms that can help you ensure success. Mike has been a contractor, worked as a field rep for a power tool company, and held executive roles with multi-national distributors like Fastenal & Red-D-Arc. Dan spent 18 months in a tool crib in a place called Firebag and has spent the last seven years of his career advising small businesses on how best to navigate digitalization. With the launch of ClearSource, they are trying to help the contractor community be better prepared for the challenges of running a small business and introduce innovation to help make them more efficient.
