Change to CWB Welder Qualification Documents Issued to CWB Accredited Test Centres

CWB Certification is committed to helping protect public safety by making sure welding certification and testing standards are applied in a correct matter.

A welder qualification document is an important part of the certification requirements, and our CWB Accredited Test Centres play a vital role in providing welder testing services for certified companies and unions, and for individuals seeking employment.

This is to advise of an upcoming change to the format of the welder qualification documents issued to CWB Accredited Test Centres following welder testing.

What change are we making?
Effective February 1st, 2023, individuals who test at CWB Accredited Test Centres will receive an electronic Welder Qualification Record or an electronic Welder Test Record following the evaluation of the welder test assemblies.

Individuals who are successful in their test and are able to be issued a qualification will be issued a Welder Qualification Record. This document will be an Adobe PDF format and will be valid proof of qualification. A plastic welder qualification card will no longer be issued.

Why are we making this change?
This change is being made to address concerns by our certified companies that, in some cases, the plastic welder qualification cards are being misused, misrepresented, or misunderstood by the individual welders and regulatory bodies. The new Adobe PDF Welder Qualification Record provides additional information on the conditions of the record and provides clarification on how it should be used and interpreted. As noted, CWB Certification is committed to helping protect public safety and this change is intended to support these efforts.
