Module 35 - Fracture - Fundamentals

Pictures of dramatic brittle fractures (ships cracked in two or pressure vessels blown apart) are well known to most engineers. This module reviews both ductile and brittle fracture, transition behaviour, micro-mechanisms, fractures in welded structures and basic fracture mechanics. Basic calculations relating to fracture mechanics are also presented in the module for use in predicting brittle fracture events.
