Recognized Training Courses for Welding Inspectors
Candidates, who have successfully completed a course(s) recognized by the CWB for study in the fundamental principles and practices of welding and quality control and inspection of welding, applying for certification are entitled to:
- Level 1 – exemption from writing the CWB’s examination on basic welding fundamentals and basics of visual welding inspection.
- Level 2 – write the “short exam” on examination on basic materials science, advanced welding fundamentals and other welding inspection techniques (NDE).
- Level 3 – write the “short exam” on advanced materials science, quality assurance/quality management systems, and welding metallurgy.
The following is a list of educational programs and their providers which have been reviewed and found to be acceptable for meeting the above requirement. Updates to the will be provided as new educational programs have been reviewed and confirmed to be acceptable.

* These programs only exempt Level 1 candidates from the Welding Inspection examination.
The CWBi Level 1 program for welding inspectors consists of Modules 1-4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, and 16. The CWBi Level 2 program is covered in modules 1-13, 15-19, 22 and the Level 3 in modules 1-24.
Educational institutions may seek recognition by the CWB for meeting the education requirements through the submission of a formal request.
