Designing and Calculating Weld Strength Capacity

Mal Farrokhzad, Instructor, Welding Engineering Technology, SAIT

Presented At:
Educators Conference 2018

When a welded component is designed, it must be ensured that the welds do not fail in design loading scenarios and meets the properties of parent materials. In this presentation, we demonstrate several loading scenarios to show the effect of important welding parameters (such as weld lengths) on load bearing capacity on basic mechanical components. We will also show methods that can be used to ensure the correctness of weld lengths and capacity for the given design conditions.
