Message for Welding Engineers regarding COVID-19

March 18, 2020

The well-being of our employees, clients and stakeholders is of the utmost importance to us. As we continue to monitor and respond to the changing situation related to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have implemented various protocols to enable service to clients to continue as is possible during this time.

I wanted to inform you of some key issues of importance to you as a Welding Engineer.  As of today:

  • Our Call Centre remains fully operational should you need to contact the CWB Group
  • CWB continues to provide auditing and testing services to our mutual clients
  • Welding procedures can continue to be submitted to CWB Group via email, and our current service target for response remains unchanged
  • Our Procedures Engineer team continues to provide full service and is available via telephone and email
  • Welding procedure qualification testing is still being conducted by CSRs provided that our clients are able to provide access to their facilities by CWB Group staff

With respect to the supply of “Records of Engineer’s Visits” by Welding Engineers to clients, the CWB Group would remind Welding Engineers that the requirement of the standard is to provide a record of visits at a frequency of not less than every 3 months.  Welding Engineers may submit these reports to clients electronically if you wish to do so, and we encourage your to take full advantage of the 3 month window to potentially delay visits/reports.

If you are unable to physically visit a client location due to travel or visitor restrictions related to COVID-19, the CWB will permit your visit to be done virtually via telephone/video call/Skype or other remote methods at your option.  We would ask  that if you choose to conduct remote visits during this time that this is clearly noted on your report.

Further information, including the impact on service to our certified clients, can be found on our website at https://www.cwbgroup.org/covid19

I would encourage you to regularly visit our website and social media channels for new information as the situation evolves.

Sincerely,

J. Craig Martin, P. Eng.
Vice President – Certification
