CWB Group and its partners respond to COVID-19 by offering free online courses to students

March 27, 2020

Milton, Ontario- At a time when in-class instruction is an impossible feat, and our daily education involves learning new concepts such as “social-distancing” and “flattening the curve,” it is difficult to think of anything other than the rapid spread of COVID-19. At the CWB Group, however, we are committed to our students’ welding education and are working tirelessly to make sure that the academic progress of our students is not affected due to the current state of events. As announced earlier last week, we are taking significant steps to increase student access to high-quality education and promoting digital learning.

In addition to offering the Health and Safety course for free, CWB Education is excited to announce that we have added the following list of online courses to the roster with more to follow over the next few weeks. We understand that uncertainty and ambiguity can be nerve-racking, especially when one’s future is at stake, and we want to assure you that we are doing all that we can to help our students stay ahead of the game.

“During this period of isolation and physical distancing, we are launching a series of free online courses designed to keep our customers and team members connected with the goal of providing continuous learning opportunities,” shared Darcy Yantz, Manager of CWB Education. “We want to make sure that we give them the correct tools and resources without the burden of fees so that they’re free to learn the skills and fluency that they need to progress beyond the classroom.”

Currently, the online courses being offered free of charge are:

  1. Introduction To Welding Processes
  2. W59 Workshop For Supervisors & Inspectors
  3. Basic Inspection Methods
  4. Health & Safety Course

Our goal with this is to allow students access to a wider variety of courses, no matter where they live, to enable them to gain an education based on their individual needs and goals. Our online courses will give students greater flexibility, more choice and encourage them to continue learning while we work through this crisis together. “In a way, we are hoping to do our part for the industry by delivering valuable skills and training during a time of unpredictability across the world,” said Yantz.

If you have any questions about the courses, please contact darcy.yantz@cwbgroup.org or visit https://www.cwbgroup.org/education/online-courses over the next few weeks for a list of additional classes.
