Introducing our new Hydrostatic Testing Program

December 9, 2019

The CWB Group has wrapped up another successful year and gearing up for a bigger, better 2020. To keep the momentum going this year, CWB Education is excited to announce the launch of the first Canada-focused Hydrostatic Testing Program. CWB Education is Canada’s leading educational resource for welding, non-destructive testing/evaluation training and provides training to Canadian welding inspectors and supervisors while being the only national body accredited to issuing qualifications for welding engineers.

It is now being offered at our innovative new training facility in Edmonton and is a complete training solution for those involved in the planning and execution of hydrostatic testing. Delivered over a 3-day period, the program provides a comprehensive review of hydrostatic theory enhanced with in-class applications. The new HTC program is essential for all personnel involved in the planning, execution, and inspection of hydrostatic testing to ensure that all involved parties have the same baseline training and safety protocols across Canada. Scott Blackburn, Welding Quality Supervisor at Atco Gas and Pipelines Ltd., recognizes the vast benefits of the HTC program and has used the new Acorn program successfully at his company. “As a front-line supervisor, I’m asked to assess worker competence. CSA Z662 requires that pressure tests are conducted under the direction of competent personnel (qualified, trained, and experienced to perform the required duties.) HTC effectively closes the loop specifically on qualification and training- this allows me to make the right decisions when evaluating my people’s competence,” said Blackburn. Having personnel trained on Canadian standards ensures that a consistent level of training and safety protocols are implemented across the board, streamlining the process at an organizational level.

The three-day course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of hydrostatic testing, followed by an open-book exam to test knowledge of the course material. Each participant will receive detailed course materials with figures, tables, charts and handy hints that will be beneficial even after the course. CWB Education is committed to the educational journey of welding professionals and will continue to invest in their learning as we continue to grow as an organization. We hope to see you at our training facilities for this exciting new program! Please visit https://www.cwbgroup.org/htc for information on how to register and learn more about the program.
