For Immediate Release

November 21, Milton, ON- The CWB Group is the source of excellence in welding and we are committed to sharing our knowledge and passion for the industry. We rely on client and member feedback to make organizational decisions, and our new initiative, Welding Industry Day, stemmed from feedback surveys where clients and members asked for more local events and networking opportunities. We are excited to be hosting our first Industry Day on December 18, 2019, at Mohawk College, Stoneycreek Campus and want to see you there! This event will serve to provide industry professionals with a combination of extraordinary convenience, technical presentations, networking opportunities, and content that is relevant to local businesses at no cost to attend.

The event focuses on promoting and improving the health of the industry locally and, therefore, works to serve Canada as a whole. With a strong commitment towards being leaders that affect positive change for the ongoing improvement of the sector, we are confident that community events such as these will attract new people to the trade. The main objectives of this inaugural event are to share information and gain valuable hands-on experience with advancements and innovations in welding, learn how to improve productivity at work, allow the opportunity for young professionals to connect and network with seasoned welders and mentors for coaching plus, current and future job opportunities. Welding Industry Day will feature technology presentations from experts who will provide updates on standards, information on preparing for weld tests, and other exciting news that affects members of our community. Plus, attendees will have the unique opportunity to interact with local suppliers from the Hamilton region and try their hand at the latest and most innovative welding technologies.

“In support of the CWB Group’s expressed commitments to maintaining the success of the welding industry across Canada, Welding Industry Day will bring awareness, education and networking to welders, shop owners, educators and students,” said Michelle Stanford, Senior Vice-President, Industry Services. “These industry days will also bring together key stakeholders including municipal, provincial, and federal government representatives, labour representatives, building officials, and design engineers to be in conversation to develop strategies and plans to support welding in local markets.”

We believe that Hamilton, one of the leading industrial centres with its vast array of iron and steel companies, was the perfect place to kick off our exciting new initiative.

Amir Ghabraei is the Hamilton Chapter Chair and is working in partnership with the CWB Group to host this exciting event. A huge proponent of the skilled trades, he recognizes the dire need for well-trained welders in the skilled workforce and works tirelessly with chapter members to raise awareness. When we spoke to Ghabraei, he told us that “[the Hamilton chapter knows] employers are struggling to find the right people for the job these days and that is why, they are trying to bridge the gap between industry and colleges to make sure students area prepared to tackle the workforce.”

In line with the growing efforts from the federal and provincial government agencies to help grow the skilled trades sector, the CWB Group is excited to be giving back to the welding industry. The Hamilton Welding Industry Day event will be the first of what we hope is many exciting local events hosted throughout Canada in 2020. The CWB Group has been dedicated to addressing the growing gap between employment and the skilled trades and through activities such as these, we hope to shine a light on the issue and work diligently to ensure that we assist in bridging this gap.
