This course is designed for Welding Inspectors who want to increase their knowledge of metallurgy, inspection, and testing techniques. This is your first step to advancing your career and increasing your earning potential.

The Level 1 Hybrid course includes a combination of both online self-study and in-class learning.  Based on our popular 9 day in-class Inspector Level 1 course, this 5-day hybrid version of the course is designed for those seeking inspection certification and already possess advanced understanding of the welding trade (completion of a welding or metal fabrication apprenticeship, or significant industry experience is strongly recommended).

  • World-class teaching and knowledge from our CWB instructors
  • An opportunity to network with other welding professionals.
  • Participants will have access to download a transcript and certificate of attendance on successful completion of the course exams and final AI exam. Passing grade is 70%.

Certification to CSA W178.2

To advance your career even further, and provided you meet the requirements as outlined in CSA W178.2, most course candidates are eligible to take the next step of applying for certification to become a certified Level 1 welding inspector, in conjunction with attending the course.

Should candidates wish to pursue this route, the Welding Inspector Application Form (CWB Form 450) and Visual Acuity Form (CWB Form 455) must be completed, submitted, and approved prior to the course start date.  All information regarding the certification process is outlined in our Welding Inspector Application Guide (Form 301).  The application fee is not included in the course registration fee.

Successful completion of the course material and course examinations will exempt you from writing the closed book CSA W178.2 certification examination on the fundamental principles and practices of welding, quality control, and welding inspection, resulting in the candidate only needing to complete the two code exams and the Practical Exam. (All certification examinations must be completed within 2 years of the application approval date).

To book your exams, please contact our Call Centre at info@cwbgroup.org or 1-800-844-6790 for further information on exam locations, or if you have questions pertaining to the application process.

For certification requirements please review the CSA W178.2 certification service.
